Holiday Toy Safety
Holiday Toy Safety
It’s that magical time of year when our gifts bring joy and cheer to friends and family. However, did you know that December is designated as Safe Toys and Gifts Month? It’s a reminder to ensure the safety of the toys and gifts we give, especially those meant for children. As you create your holiday gift list, don’t forget to add "safety" and "age-appropriate" to the top of your checklist.
When shopping this holiday season, keep these safety tips in mind:
* Read labels and instructions carefully when choosing toys.
* Make sure the toy is age-appropriate and fits the child’s developmental stage.
* Watch for small parts that could pose a choking hazard, including button batteries, which can be dangerous if swallowed.
* Check for holes, hinges or sharp edges that could pinch or injure small fingers.
* If a bike, skateboard or scooter is on a wish list, remember to include a properly fitted helmet.
* Register toys and sign up for recall notices so you’ll be alerted if a product is recalled.
Enjoy the season of giving with safe, thoughtful toys and gifts! Wishing you a safe and joyful holiday season!

Natural Gas Safety During the Holidays
Holiday Safety
‘Tis the season to spread holiday cheer—and to keep your loved ones safe!
As we gather, celebrate and enjoy the warmth of the season, let’s also remember the importance of natural gas safety.
A few simple reminders that can help ensure your family stays safe and happy all month long:
* Most natural gas pipelines are underground—keep an eye out for yellow pipeline markers that show where they’re located.
* Take time to identify all gas appliances in and around your home, and make sure everyone knows how to use them safely.
* Call 811 before you dig or plant to avoid damaging underground gas lines.
* Learn how to recognize and report a gas leak. The smell of rotten eggs is a key warning sign.
* Protect your gas meter from potential damage, especially from vehicles.
* Be aware of the signs of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and know how to prevent it.
Stay warm, stay safe and enjoy a worry-free holiday season!

Holiday Gifting with the Planet in Mind
Dinosaur at AZMNH
This year, consider giving gifts that are kinder for the planet. Skip the stuff that becomes clutter and go for meaningful alternatives instead: offer your time, give experiences or choose consumables like locally roasted coffee, specialty chocolates or baked goods.
Mesa offers plenty of gift options – think plant nursery gift cards, museum memberships, concert or show tickets, or gift cards to local restaurants. These choices support our community, reduce waste and create memories. Get even *more ideas* [ https://www.mesaaz.gov/Environment-Sustainability/Living-Green/Sustainability-Savings-Tips/Planet-Friendly-Holidays?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery ] to give local, give thoughtful, give green!
